“Who do you say that I am?” This is never an outdated question asked by Jesus to his disciples and to all of us. Answering this question correctly will affect our lives enormously. If Jesus is only seen as a good moral teacher then he is not really special. If he is merely a good friend, then we still have many other choices. But if with our conviction, we declare that he is our Saviour, then this faith statement will shape the way we live our lives.
Jesus seems more interested in his disciples own response when he asks them: “but who do say that I am?” These men have followed him for nearly 3 year; a time that should be long enough for them to understand the real person of Jesus. And Peter is quite right when he exclaims: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” In this secular world, while many others consider themselves as christs because they thought they could do anything with God, we need more people like Peter who could see the Divinity of Christ who is “the Way, the Truth and the Life.” It is only in full communion with Christ, salvation will be given to us. Jesus is asking you and I: who do we say that he is?
