The Church puts before us this weekend another great feast – the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ. Today we contemplate and give thanks for this most extraordinary gift Jesus himself, hidden under the forms of bread and wine.
The real presence of Christ in the Eucharist is no invention of the Church, no, she is simply the custodian of the clear assurance of Jesus himself, who reveals to us in John’s Gospel, that his “…flesh is real food, his blood, real drink. (John 6:54 ) Yes, Jesus remains with us, hidden, but present.
Let’s pray that we may never grow complacent towards this divine remedy for body and soul.
