The Joy of the Empty Tomb

Easter Joy, the tomb is empty – He has risen! This weekend we re-live the truth that the final victory will always go to love. Yes, death has been destroyed, the darkness will never again prevail, the light of the Risen Christ has come intro the world. Good Friday was not the end of the Easter story.

As we experience once again this great week of the Church’s year, when each weekday is another Easter Sunday, lets contemplate the empty tomb. Empty – well not quite, left in the tomb were the burial clothes of Jesus. Are these not an invitation, a symbol of our old self which we are invited to leave behind, walking anew with the Risen Christ ?

Lets rejoice in particular with those who have become Roman Catholics at the Easter vigil, and those being baptized this coming week. May the joy of their coming to know Christ in a deeper way allow them to play their part in the building of the kingdom.

On behalf of the parish team here at St Peter Chanel, I wish you and those you love every Easter joy as we bask together in the new light of  the risen Christ..

“Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we shall be in the future has not yet been revealed.  We do know that, when this is revealed, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.”(1 John 3:2).
